Formalizing Ghana’s Informal Economy — Professional Webinar

Last Friday, we hosted what turned out to be a truly eye-opening webinar, and if you missed it, here's what went down.

Our speaker, Agnes Otoo Yeboah FCA, MBA, Executive Director of Development Solutions Ghana, brought sharp insight and zero sugarcoating to a conversation Ghana's accounting profession needs to be having. The headline? Over 80% of Ghana's economy is informal, and rather than seeing that as a problem, Agnes made a compelling case that it is the largest untapped market for Chartered Accountants in a generation.

The session walked us through a practical 3-Tier Service Model for CAs to serve informal SMEs, from systems design for micro-businesses through compliance and assurance, all the way to full strategic advisory for growth-stage enterprises. The model is built so CAs focus on oversight, advisory, and certification, not daily data entry.

Real-world proof came from Nigeria and Kenya, where similar programmes saw CA incomes rise by as much as 34% within 18 months, banks actively referring SMEs to CA networks, and thousands of informal businesses becoming bankable and investment-ready.

The call to action was clear: this isn't just a career opportunity. It's a profession-defining moment. And it starts with ICAG stepping up as a market builder, not just a certification body.

We've attached the full presentation below. Dig in, share it, and let's keep the conversation going.
